There’s an expression that says, ‘It’s not how you start, but how you finish’. However, when it comes to staying calm and stress-free, the opposite is actually true. Getting your day off to a great start can set you up to be much calmer throughout your day. Here at The Natural Nutritionist, we are firm believers in making healthy choices right from the start of the day to enable you to keep that trend going all day long. Bupa Life Insurance featured us in a recent post about tips for staying calm and ours was to get a positive start to your day. Here’s how to do it:

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Nutrition is a key factor in your ability to stay calm. With a healthy diet, your body has the nutrition it needs to better regulate your moods, keeping you calm and stable throughout the day. When you are not getting the vitamins and minerals you need, you are more likely to be irritable, which can increase your stress levels throughout the day. Start by eating a nutrient-packed breakfast to boost your energy levels, improve your concentration, and reduce anxiety.

Fit in Some Exercise

Daily exercise has the incredible ability to improve your mood. Doing it first thing in the morning makes it less likely that you’ll find excuses not to do it later in the day. Getting your blood pumping gives you plenty of energy to take on whatever your day throws at you. As an added bonus, it will also make you feel better about your body in knowing that it has the strength and power to get through your toughest workouts. When you have more confidence, you can better react to stress, making it much easier to stay calm.

Set Your Goals for the Day

As we told Bupa for their article, ‘How to Stay Calm: Wellness Experts Share Their Tips’, taking just a few minutes in the morning to outline your daily schedule can greatly reduce your stress levels later in the day. Make a to-do list of everything you need to get done during the day, both at work and in your personal life, and come up with a schedule of when you will get it all done. By laying all of this out in the morning, you’ll have a clearer picture of how your day will go. You’ll also decrease the likelihood that you will forget anything important, which will help you to avoid stress later in the day.

How you go about your morning sets the foundation for the rest of your day.
